Gabriel loves babies. We spent last evening at our second birthday party of the weekend (three weeks of parties down, three weeks to go). His classmate and my good friend Leigh's son, Grey, turned 3. Gabe had a late nap, and wasn't quite up to being social when we got there, but he played a little and ate a little (chocolate cake, the chocolate icing still evident below on his face), and patiently waited. What was he waiting for you ask? He was waiting for his chance to spend a little time with 'Baby Poppy'. Poppy is Grey's little sister, who I believe is about 3 months old. Gabriel even approached a complete stranger at the party, who happened to be holding another baby, and asked him if he was holding 'Baby Poppy'. When he replied that he wasn't, Gabriel said, "Oh", turned quietly, and sulked away. Well, when Poppy finally ended up in my arms, Gabe absolutely lit up. We went to the living room, sat on the couch, and held 'Baby Poppy'. (Just a side note here, Gabe has a baby doll that he likes to take care of, and he informed me last week that her name is 'Baby Poppy). Gabriel was in heaven with Poppy in his lap.
All of the other kids were playing in the sandbox, riding scooters, or playing Wii, but Gabriel was more then content sitting with Poppy. Apparently Poppy was quite content as well, falling asleep in Gabe's lap. He was so proud of the fact that he put Poppy to sleep.
Gabriel is going to be the most amazing big brother.
